Although primarily remote, the candidate must be available to work in the Boston office once a week.

About Transportation for Massachusetts (T4MA)

T4MA is fiscally sponsored by Conservation Law Foundation (CLF). Established in 2010, T4MA is a statewide coalition focused on improving Massachusetts' transportation systems. T4MA is committed to addressing the decades of inequitable transportation policies adversely impacting low-income, working class and Black, Indigenous and communities of color. We work to eradicate the long-lasting impacts of inequitable transportation policies that have resulted to Massachusetts having some of the highest childhood asthma rates in the nation, transit deserts in rural and urban communities, socially isolated residents who lack transportation options, and a lack of opportunity and access to jobs, healthcare, and education for people.

T4MA works towards a Commonwealth with transportation systems that connect people with their choice of housing, economic opportunities, healthcare, and accessible and reliable public transportation that benefits residents in all 351 cities and towns in Massachusetts. Our coalition advocates at the state, federal, and local levels for transportation policies that are just, equitable, and sustainable.

About the Position

This selected candidate will lead T4MA's efforts to connect, liaise and collaborate with local government, planning offices, community-based organizations and their constituencies in particular towns and cities of focus as determined by T4MA's annual workplan. One of the Associate Director for Special Projects (ADSP)'s main goals is to help move critical transportation projects and programs forward with the interest of the community at the center. Likewise, as part of that work, the successful candidate will develop and maintain partnerships and support and mobilize coalition members to advocate for transformative policy change at the local, state, and federal levels.

This position requires close coordination with and activation of T4MA's members and their constituencies, as well as being in lock-step with T4MA's membership and policy teams. The successful candidate may from time to time be required to attend events in pursuit of work that are outside usual business hours.

T4MA is located at a co-working space in downtown Boston. While our staff works remotely primarily, staff must be accessible to the office as needed. Currently, staff are required to be in-office once a week which is subject to change.

Specific Duties:
The ADSP represents T4MA and the coalition in selected issue areas and spaces including but not limited to: City of Boston/Cambridge/Somerville/Worcester transportation planning and climate plans issues (this year's areas of focus) Allston I-90 project Shared Spaces table convened by the Boston Center for Independent Living MPO's Community Advisory Council Transit is Essential coalition MBTA The ADSP will directly work with T4MA members, community members, advocates, transit agencies, planning offices, local government, towns and cities and relevant stakeholders to advocate for just and equitable transportation policies. The ADSP will advance T4MA's advocacies through various strategies such as writing letters and op-eds, developing white papers and information sheets, developing webinars and briefings, creating advisories and campaigns, meeting with communities, setting up outreach events, attending meetings and conferences, and the like. In fulfillment of their tasks, the ADSP will analyze issues and policies, and provide recommendations to the coalition in their areas of responsibility. The ADSP is expected to work with T4MA's members, partners and allies, and will take part in and contribute to T4MA's outreach and coalition activities. The ADSP will work with our diverse membership to identify priorities and facilitate a process to distill key agenda items for any given period. Identify areas of agreement and disagreement, seeking to build understanding and consensus among members. The ADSP will work with organizations and groups outside of the T4MA membership to advance common policy related goals and objectives. The ADSP directly reports to the Executive Director who may assign the ADSP special campaigns and tasks from time to time consistent with the overall goals of T4MA. The ADSP serves as an integral member of T4MA's team, and assists on a range of activities including communications strategy, speaking to media on the Coalition's behalf, and initiatives, coordinating events, guiding research projects, and presenting to external audiences. The ADSP works with the Policy and Membership Team to collaborate on materials needed to engage T4MA membership and community members to further our policy agenda at the local, state and federal level. As part of the T4MA staff, the ADSP is expected to complete their work planning responsibilities which includes identifying and fulfilling their work priorities, identifying areas for professional development opportunities and generative coalition opportunities for T4MA and T4MA staff including conferences, webinars, and opportunities for T4MA to engage to broaden our transportation-related knowledge and opportunities for T4MA to build the coalition.

Qualifications + Qualities: Significant experience working in transportation policy and/or its related issue areas and advocacy: climate, environment, public health and social justice, and a strong understanding of the role of race and class in perpetuating transportation and environmental injustice. Strong organizing experience in the advocacy space and/or volunteer experience in community organizing, election campaigns, or issue-based campaigns. Proven ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders Proven ability to analyze policy and transportation issues, strategize and consolidate actions to produce desired policy outcomes Experience working in or in partnership with local governments, planning or transit agencies Excellent writing skills and experience drafting policy papers and communicating to a wide audience. Demonstrated commitment to addressing social, racial, and economic inequities through better public-policy and through engaging with leaders of communities of color, low-income communities, and limited English proficient populations to advance change. Is a team player, both with T4MA staff colleagues and with the broader coalition. Self-motivated and organized, with excellent follow-through Passion for transportation justice, and a strong understanding of the role of race and class in perpetuating transportation and environmental injustice. Strong communications, technical and interpersonal skills to help develop and manage relationships with diverse stakeholders. Self-motivated and organized working style; strong commitment to follow-through. Works well in a team dynamic. Takes the initiative on tasks pertaining to the job description. Ability to communicate clearly and professionally through email, video calls, phone calls, and in person. Comfortable with facilitating meetings that bring in all voices and allow for productive and respectful discourse. Additional language skills apart from English, like Spanish, Portuguese, Haitian Creole, and Mandarin) is a huge plus. The role requires travel (day or mult-day trips) within the Commonwealth and occasional travel (multi-day trips) out of state. The candidate must be willing to travel and be a resident of Massachusetts preferably within their geographical assignment. Compensation and Benefits:

The salary range for this position is $82,000 to $88,000, depending on qualifications

and years of relevant work experience. T4MA is fiscally sponsored by the Conservation Law Foundation (CLF), which offers a comprehensive benefits package.
