Job Description
The Working Lands Climate Corps Member position at Kay County Conservation District is a full-time, 1700-hour AmeriCorps role focused on training in Climate Smart Agriculture and Forestry. Members engage in educational outreach, promote conservation practices, and organize programs for the community. About the position
The Working Lands Climate Corps Member position at the Kay County Conservation District is a full-time, 1700-hour AmeriCorps term of service lasting 47 weeks, with a commitment of 40 hours per week. This role is designed to train the next generation of conservation leaders in Climate Smart Agriculture and Forestry. The member will engage in various educational and outreach activities aimed at promoting the responsible care and protection of Kay County's natural resources. The position is part of the American Climate Corps (ACC), which provides technical skills training, education awards, and career pathway opportunities. Members will gain hands-on experience working with partners and organizations that support the adoption of sustainable agricultural practices. As the Education and Outreach Coordinator, the WLCC Member will be responsible for planning and implementing programs that educate the public, farmers, ranchers, and students about conservation efforts. This includes organizing youth programs, outreach events, and assisting with the promotion of Climate Smart practices. The member will also participate in meetings with conservation organizations and provide technical assistance as needed. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the community while developing valuable skills in conservation and environmental education.
Responsibilities
• Planning and implementation of District student youth programs such as poster, speech, essay and photo contests.
,
• Planning and implementation of outreach programs intended to educate the general public about the Kay County Conservation District and its mission.
,
• Participation in helping organize producer field days/outreach events.
,
• Assist the District and its federal partner, NRCS in the promotion and adoption of Climate Smart Agriculture and Forestry practices.
,
• Assist the District in promoting its Outdoor Classroom to educate students and the community on the importance of our natural resources.
,
• Assist the District and its state partner, the Oklahoma Conservation Commission, on the Yard by Yard program and its promotion and implementation.
,
• Participation in Area and State meetings in conjunction with the Oklahoma Association of Conservation Districts.
,
• Provide technical assistance when needed with other District and Federal employees.
,
• Any other duties approved by the District Board that are not clerical or administrative.
Requirements
• Must be able to serve a full-time schedule for the duration of the term.

• Be at least 17 years old at the start of service.
,
• Have a high school diploma or equivalent or agree to obtain a high school diploma prior to using the earned education award.
,
• Be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States.
,
• Satisfy the National Service Criminal History Check eligibility criteria.
