WSB is seeking a Wildlife Ecologist in Fargo, ND, to conduct wildlife surveys, perform wetland delineations, and develop conservation plans. What You’ll Do – Make a Real Impact
Wildlife and Habitat Assessments:
• Conduct wildlife and/or botanical field surveys and interpret data on wildlife populations and habitats.
• Perform wetland delineations using the 1987 USACE Wetland Delineation Manual and regional supplements.
• Develop and implement innovative conservation plans to protect, restore, and monitor vital ecosystems.
Regulatory Compliance and Reporting:
• Stay current with federal and state wildlife regulations, including the Endangered Species Act.
• Help projects align with local, state, and federal environmental standards.
• Prepare comprehensive reports, permits, and regulatory documentation for agencies and stakeholders.
Project Development and Management:
• Collaborate with clients, project teams, regulatory agencies, and subcontractors.
• Assist with environmental due diligence and compliance tasks.
• Contribute to project proposals, scoping, budgeting, and scheduling.
• Support and manage projects with opportunities for career advancement and leadership.
What You Bring – Passion, Purpose, And Expertise
• BS or MS degree in environmental science, ecology, biology, or a closely related field.
• 3+ years of experience in environmental consulting.
• Proficiency in GPS-based data collection and Microsoft Office tools.
• Strong analytical thinking, organization, and both written and verbal communication skills.
• A team-oriented mindset with a client-first attitude and drive to solve complex environmental challenges.
Preferred Skills:
• GIS proficiency (especially ArcPro) is a plus.
• Experience with wildlife surveys for renewable energy projects.
• Background in business development or supporting proposals is highly valued.
What To Expect – In The Office And The Field
• Split time between office tasks and fieldwork across urban and rural areas.
• Must be comfortable navigating uneven terrain and carrying up to 25 lbs of field equipment.
• Travel may be up to 25%, with some overnight fieldwork.
