Visiting Assistant Professor, Department of GeosciencesTheDepartment of Geosciences at the University of Montana(UM)invites applications for a temporary, full-timeVisiting Assistant Professorto begin fall 2022. We seek a colleague that compliments current expertise in the Department with teaching expertise in quantitative Earth sciences in one or more of the following fields: critical zone science, computational Earth science, remote sensing, geospatial analysis, hydrology, or natural disasters. The candidate is expected to teach across the undergraduate spectrum in physical critical-zone science. Courses could include introductory environmental science, oceanography, hydrology, hydrogeology, computational methods in environmental sciences and critical zone science. The successful candidate with be responsible for curriculum development of classroom, laboratory and field-based learning activities. There may also be opportunities for teaching other graduate level courses in the successful candidate’s area of expertise, team teaching with Department faculty, online teaching, and/or advising and supervision of undergraduate student research.Qualifications:Required Experience and skillsA PhD in Earth sciences, Geosciences or closely related fieldPreferred Experience and skillsDemonstrated commitment or experience in curriculum development including laboratory, classroom, and field-based activitiesDemonstrated commitment to research and teaching in critical zone science.Demonstrated commitment or experience in mentoring undergraduate researchDemonstrated ability to work with diverse students and colleagues in an active, inclusive and culturally relevant learning environmentPrior non-academic work experience in geoscience and/or environmental sciencesPosition DetailsFull-time, 1.0 FTE, academic year (10 month), non-tenurable position, includes a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.Opportunity to teach future summer session courses on a separate contract.Salary for this position $55,000 – $60,000 per year commensurate with experience.AboutGeosciencesUMandMissoulaThe University of Montana is flagship, research institution with more than 9,000 undergraduate and graduate students. We analyze how earth materials such as water, minerals, sediments and rocks, and energy move and change. Department faculty have specific expertise in sedimentology, petrology, geophysics, geomorphology, glaciology, and hydrology.
