Job Description
The City of Albuquerque is hiring a Sustainability Specialist to lead sustainability initiatives within the Environmental Health Department. Responsibilities include developing sustainability plans, monitoring project progress, collaborating with community partners, and providing technical support. Candidates should have a bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience. Preferred qualifications include knowledge of climate change principles and strong analytical skills. This is a full-time position located in Albuquerque, NM.
Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled professional to lead our sustainability initiatives within the Environmental Health Department. This individual will be responsible for planning, overseeing and coordinating projects related to sustainability programs, evaluating and monitoring their progress, and collaborating with community partners to identify and address sustainability needs in the community.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and implement comprehensive sustainability plans and strategies that align with the department's goals and objectives
• Evaluate and monitor project progress, identifying areas of improvement and making data-driven decisions
• Build and maintain effective relationships with community partners, stakeholders, and internal departments to ensure successful collaboration and implementation of sustainability projects
• Conduct analysis to determine sustainability needs in the community, including researching best practices and emerging trends
• Provide technical support to the Sustainability Officer and other team members as needed
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in science, engineering, planning or public administration
• Five (5) years of experience in environmental regulatory compliance, sustainability program administration, or environmental and scientific studies
• Possession of a valid New Mexico's Driver's License or the ability to obtain by date of hire
• Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with municipal-level climate change mitigation and adaptation principles and practices
• Familiarity with environmental conditions and sustainability challenges facing the Albuquerque metro area
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to collect and analyze data
• Excellent communication and public speaking skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
