The Sustainability team is searching for an ambitious leader to join our team. This individual would be instrumental in achieving Smithfield’s goal of sustainably delivering Good Food, Responsibly™.

The Sustainability Manager is responsible for leading the Sustainability team’s efforts and initiatives related to annual reporting, customer audits & survey requests, supplier programs, sustainability metrics and data collection, customer requests, and internal & external sustainability communications. This role manages various projects while working with internal company departments such as Communications, Legal, Operations, Safety, Human Resources, and other Departments as needed to address program requirements and support staff in addressing department responsibilities and initiatives.

Core Responsibilities
• Lead the annual Sustainability report project for the company, including all subsidiaries.
• Develop and implement processes and programs to meet enterprise long-term sustainability goals in partnership with cross-functional teams and key industry stakeholders
• Lead for sustainability pillars (1-3), work directly with the pillar SMEs and helps compile annual metrics.
• Manages annual reporting and data collection in the dedicated software system.
• Ensures alignment with relevant disclosure reporting (GRI, ISSB, etc).
• Coordinates Company responses to customer sustainability surveys and information requests.
• Assist project manager for annual corporate sustainability report.
• Assist with annual ESG metrics reporting for the parent company.
• System application administration
• Data analysis with Power BI and developing data-driven reports and feedback
• Business lead for sustainability projects company-wide
• Assist in educating and engaging employees and value chain partners on the company’s sustainability journey.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year College or university and 5+ years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership is required
• Prior experience with sustainability programs and initiatives, preferred.
• Excellent computer skills related to data management and website administration.
• High degree of accuracy, detail orientation and organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• May be required to travel up to 15% of the time.
• Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Ability to be respectful, approachable and team-oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

Supervisory Responsibilities
• Provides leadership and guidance to employees within the Sustainability team function.
• Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and assisting in providing appropriate resolutions.
