Cal Poly Pomona Enterprises is hiring a part-time Student Assistant - Greenhouse Technician to maintain hydroponic and aquaponic systems, monitor fish and plants, and assist with research and demonstrations. Candidates must be Cal Poly students, responsible, and comfortable working in a greenhouse. The position offers hands-on experience in urban agriculture and pays between $18–22 per hour. The job is located on campus in Pomona, CA.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY

SUMMARY: The Urban Agriculture Greenhouse technician will help with regular maintenance of hydroponic and aquaponic greenhouse production systems. Duties include monitoring the fish, plants, and water systems and promptly reporting any issues to the supervisor. Other duties include helping with research projects, class demonstrations, and greenhouse tours. Building new hydroponic demonstration systems occasionally. Also, there will be some interaction with produce sales in the CPP Farmstore.

ABOUT US: As the largest employer of students on the Cal Poly Pomona campus, the Enterprises offers valuable work experience and hands-on training to approximately 1,500 Cal Poly Pomona students each year. The Enterprises offers positions in various fields; whether it is in the area of technology, science, retail, culinary arts, hospitality1500 management, leadership or research grants, these student employees participate in Cal Poly Pomona's learn-by-doing philosophy and acquire practical skills in their designated field of study.

The Enterprises also contributes operating support to nearly 1,100 Enterprises and scholarship programs every year, including Bronco Athletics and the Pepsi Scholarship. In addition, the Enterprises administers grants and contracts, contributes to campus security, and supports several university publications. The Enterprises contributes over $1 million annually to Cal Poly Pomona.

SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):

The part-time student will feed fish, plant seedlings, and keep track of water quality in both the aquaponic and hydroponic grow systems. On occasion, you will be able to contribute towards building and repairing grow systems in the greenhouse. You will have the chance to bring produce to the Farm Store, to be sold.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Must be a Cal Poly Student
• Responsible and dependable
• Ability to work well with various people including students and faculty
• Be comfortable working in the Greenhouse
• Be willing to take online training for Greenhouse safety and proper fish care protocols

PREFERRED
• Plant Science courses, or other related Agriculture coursework completed, or experience working with plants/fish
