The Indiana State Department of Agriculture advocates for Indiana agriculture at the local, state, and federal levels, manages soil conservation programs, promotes economic development, and supports agricultural innovation.
 

About the Internship:

The Soil Conservation Intern is a support technician for the Division of Soil Conservation staff. You will provide soil- and water resource-related assistance that helps landowners improve soil health and water quality. Projects may include:
• Assisting with educational conservation tours
• Grant administration
• Updating the state soil conservation board manual
• Collaborating with conservation partners on various initiatives.
• Indiana State Fair displays and events.

Location:

The intern works primarily in Indianapolis, Indiana, but will occasionally travel around the state.

Salary:

The hourly wage for this position is $16.24 per hour for current undergraduate students and $17.24 per hour for those with an earned bachelor’s degree.

A Day in the Life:
• Identify and execute one major project related to agency needs and academic area of study.
• Work in the Governor’s Office, learn and assist with the day-to-day operations.
• Collaborate on projects and assignments with the operations team, legal team, legislative team, and communications team.
• Partner with other relevant stakeholders to promote and enhance the quality of projects.
• Assist in coordinating agency events, meetings, workshops, and presentations.
• Provide general administrative support, including scheduling, documentation, and data entry.

What You'll Need for Success:
• In progress of at minimum a Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited university or college in physical or earth sciences, natural resources, biology, or agriculture.
• Knowledge of soil and water conservation theories, principles, techniques, and practices, with knowledge in the design, application, installation, and maintenance of those practices.
• Agricultural knowledge.
• Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license.
• Knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
• Works well with others on a team.
• Works independently when necessary to complete job assignments.

Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:

This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period.
