About the position

The Senior Campaign Organizer for the Beyond Coal Campaign at the Sierra Club plays a pivotal role in organizing campaigns that aim to achieve significant victories while building grassroots power to fulfill the organization's priorities. These priorities include addressing climate disruption, transforming the energy economy, protecting communities from pollution, ensuring equitable access to the outdoors, and safeguarding our lands, water, and wildlife. The position is based in Louisville, Kentucky, but can also be performed remotely within the state. The Senior Campaign Organizer will work closely with volunteers, partners, and staff across Kentucky, leveraging the strategic resources of the Sierra Club, including legal, communications, digital strategies, and campaign expertise. The Senior Campaign Organizer is tasked with developing a comprehensive volunteer development strategy that supports volunteers from onboarding through to leadership roles, utilizing training, coaching, and mentorship. This role involves creating and implementing campaign tactics and plans that align with state and local priorities, fostering media engagement, and building relationships with community leaders, government officials, and the media. The organizer will also represent the Sierra Club at community events and collaborate with various stakeholders to ensure that campaigns are rooted in equity and justice, particularly for frontline and directly impacted communities. In addition to campaign strategy and implementation, the Senior Campaign Organizer will be responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of campaigns through data collection and metrics, ensuring that all activities are aligned with the overarching strategic plan of the Sierra Club. The position requires a commitment to building a healthy, accountable relationship with Chapter staff and volunteers, prioritizing communication and collaboration to achieve shared goals. The role may also involve heavier workloads during peak activity periods, including frequent weekend and evening work.

Responsibilities
• Organizing campaigns to win victories and build grassroots power for Sierra Club priorities.

• Developing and implementing individual campaign organizing plans, including tactics and engagement strategies.

• Building relationships with Chapter staff and volunteers to align efforts with Sierra Club priorities.

• Creating a comprehensive volunteer development strategy to support volunteers from onboarding to leadership.

• Representing Sierra Club at community events and with partner organizations, government officials, and the media.
,
• Developing strategic communication and grasstop engagement strategies and metrics.
,
• Participating in the creation of state strategies while leading specific campaigns.
,
• Evaluating campaign progress and effectiveness through data collection and metrics.

Requirements
• Experience as an organizer and leading community organizing campaigns.
,
• Some experience planning or implementing state-level campaigns, including strategy development and media relations.
,
• Track record of recruiting and developing volunteer leaders along a progression of leadership.
,
• Demonstrated leadership experience working within a team structure.
,
• Highly developed communication skills across different stakeholder groups.
,
• Experience using quantitative and qualitative data to inform organizing work.
,
• Working knowledge of G-Suite, Zoom, Canva, Mobilize, and Hustle.
