Job Description
Columbia University is hiring a Seasonal Field Educator in Palisades, NY, for a temporary role ending on 10/17/2025. The position involves supporting environmental education programs, mentoring high school interns, and developing educational resources. The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
Position Summary
Provides support for the Education and Outreach Coordinator and Senior Staff Associate II who lead environmental education programs by: assisting in the delivery of existing programs developed for the Hudson River Field Station to the community and local groups; serving as a mentor to high school summer interns for the Next Generation of Estuary Educators Internship; collaborating with the summer students to develop new Hudson River resources and education materials as final projects; refining current Hudson River education and outreach activities and resources; educating and engaging the public at our Science Saturday events at the Field Station. Overall work to include public outreach, creation of educational resources, maintenance of social media, and mentoring high school students.
Responsibilities
• Develop and Refine Hudson River education materials.
• Assist with running community programs and presentations to school groups.
• Lead high school interns in final Hudson River education projects.
• Collect and maintain data and records from education program activities.
• Develop and maintain a social media presence.
Minimum Qualifications
• High school diploma or its equivalent with some education experience.
• Working towards a BS degree in environmental science or other related science preferred; related education experience may substitute for full-time experience.
• BS degree in marine or environment science a plus.
• Must be comfortable communicating to youth and adults on science topics.
• Strong communication skills and proficiency in MS Office, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel and social media required.
