Job Description

The City and County of Honolulu is hiring for six RADIO TECHNICIAN I positions, responsible for adjusting, testing, servicing, maintaining, and installing radio equipment in vehicles and other locations. Candidates must have a high school diploma and a two-year electronics technology degree, along with three years of relevant experience. The positions are based in Honolulu, HI, with salaries ranging from $4,766 to $5,800 per month.
Adjusts, tests, services, maintains and installs radio transmitters, receivers and other communications equipment in vehicles and permanent locations; designs, constructs, modifies and repairs radio equipment; and performs other related duties as required.

Current Vacancies:
• Five vacancies with the Honolulu Police Department, Support Services Bureau
• One vacancy with the Honolulu Fire Department.

Salary for the Honolulu Fire Department: $4,766 per month (SR-19)
Salary for the Honolulu Police Department: $4,766 - $5,800 per month (SR-19). Actual salary will be commensurate with applicable experience, pending approval.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Equivalent to graduation from high school and successful completion of a two-year program in electronics technology from an accredited community college or technical school.

Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. In order to receive credit for the education, a foreign credential evaluation (FCE) must be provided. We also reserve the right to request further information about your academic program, evidence of comparability, or an original transcript.

Verification Requirement: You must submit evidence of your Bachelor's degree in order to be given credit. Please attach an electronic copy of your diploma and/or official transcript which shows the embossed seal or applicable FCE to your application. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Three (3) years of technical work experience involving the installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of radio communications or related equipment.

LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a valid driver's license (Type 3), prior to appointment.
Desirable: Possession of a valid Federal Communications Commission General Radiotelephone Operator License is desirable.
