Compensation Range
Annual Salary: $62,000.00 - $159,500.00 (Amount based on relevant experience, skills, and competencies.)
About This Job
The main purpose of this job is to serve public sector clients to meet the complex investment banking needs of municipalities. Public Finance Bankers work closely with various finance-related teams to address challenges specifically faced within the public sector.
Essential Functions
• Responsible for closely monitoring financial details about their public sector organization to meet long-term monetary goals
• Prepare financial statements, ensure compliance with legal regulations, review government finance reports, analyze market trends, seek opportunities to better use taxpayer money, and help officials form good financial decisions
• Provide underwriting and financial advisory services to state & local governments and not-for-profit entities
• Leverage localized knowledge to facilitate the issuance of taxable and tax-exempt debt across a range of sectors
• Research client debt load, local economy, and financial strengths
• Develop models to structure and optimize debt transactions
• Prepare analyses on client outstanding debt, future debt capacity, and credit profile
• Prepare presentations for financing proposals, new business development, and bond rating agencies
• Prepare disclosure documents for bond sales
• Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required
• Comfort with analysis and quantitative operations
• Well organized, attention to detail and able to manage multiple projects under pressure
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to travel at least 1 day per week for board meetings, and approximately 6 regional and/or state conferences each year
• Strong communication and professional presence with clients required
• Motivated and organized self-starter with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities
• Inquisitive, agile and strong team player with excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
• Ability to remain adaptable and resilient to all situations with an optimistic outlook and cast a positive shadow that is aligned with our culture and Core Values
• Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook
• Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license and meet Commerce Bank’s driving record criteria; ongoing employment may be contingent upon meeting all driving requirements
Education & Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in business/finance or equivalent combination of education and experience required
• 1+ years working in a related field such as banking, accounting or governmental finance preferred

This compensation range is for the Public Finance Banker I, II, and Senior job and contemplates a wide range of factors that are considered in determining most appropriate job level and making compensation decisions, including but not limited to location, skill sets, education, relevant experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for any applicable differentials (geographic, bilingual, or shift) that could be associated with the position or where it is filled. At Commerce, compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each situation. A reasonable estimate of the current base pay is $62,000 to $159,500 annually. This position will be eligible for additional compensation through performance-based incentive plan(s) that will correspond to meeting performance goals.
