Position Summary

AirJoule is seeking a Product Development Engineer to join the application engineering team, which focuses on optimization of device performance and understanding its performance landscape. AirJoule® technology dehumidifies air with record-breaking energy efficiency, and then converts it into pure water. The role of the Product Development Engineer is essential for success of the technology, because it connects basic R&D to real-world performance. This role will involve running the assembled prototypes, automation of subcomponent technologies within AirJoule®, and collecting performance data over a wide range of conditions. The role will also involve modeling of prototype performance and generation of experimental data to validate the model. This assignment will be located at AirJoule's headquarters in Newark, DE. The Applications Engineer should be familiar with running complex mechanical systems, controlling systems with automation software such as Labview, and developing software-based models of chemical and mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as an operator of AirJoule® prototypes, including running the device, performing maintenance, QC testing, performing FMEA analysis, and troubleshooting problems that occur with the device.
• Design and execute experiments aligned with optimization of AirJoule systems' design, layout, and performance.
• Work with the Applications Engineering Team to design testing campaigns with Design-of-Experiment methods, execute them with sufficient experimental rigor, compile the results and perform statistical analysis, and communicate results.
• Interpretation and analysis of data collected on performance of AirJoule systems.
• Modeling of chemical and physical processes within AirJoule systems using ASPEN, DWSIM, Matlab, COMSOL or related software.
• Implementation and evaluation of supporting technologies which enable AirJoule field deployments at customer sites. This will include travel to customer sites.
• Document experimental results in the form of PowerPoint presentations, technical report documents, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) entries.

Education and Experience Requirements
• Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of experience in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related field, OR master's degree and 1+ years of experience, Or PhD.
• Prior experience in product development, as an applications or field service engineer, or in development of chemical/mechanical processes, is preferred.
• Experience in adsorption or HVAC fields is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Experience with running multicomponent mechanical and/or chemical systems, such as rigs', reactors, automotives, technical prototypes, etc including knowledge of safe operating methods.
• Experience with process modeling of chemical and/or physical systems with software such as ASPEN, Matlab, COMSOL, DWSIM, etc is preferred.
• Experience with controls and automation using software such as LabVIEW, Python, etc is preferred.
• Excellent organization skills, with ability to manage multiple workflows and projects simultaneously.
• Basic understanding of mechanical systems, including pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, fans, motors, and HVAC systems.
• Passionate about hands-on work while acting as a driver with respect to project execution
• Ability to work under pressure and flexibility towards pivoting.
• Strong interpersonal skills and desire to work as part of a team.
