The Ecosystems and Global Change Group at Trent University, under the joint leadership of Prof. Andrew Tanentzap (Canada Research Chair in Climate Change and Northern Ecosystems) and Dr. Erik Emilson (Canadian Forest Service, Natural Resources Canada), is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow to begin immediately. The initial appointment is for two years, with the possibility of renewal.
The successful candidate will contribute to research focused on characterizing microbial community composition and function in thawing North American permafrost, with particular emphasis on environmental pathogens and single-cell sequencing methodologies. The group maintains extensive sequencing datasets from freshwater and soil samples, often integrated with metabolomics data, providing ample opportunities for data mining and specialized research.
Requirements
– PhD completed by the start date
– Demonstrated publication record utilizing advanced bioinformatics tools for metagenomics sequencing data analysis
– Relevant knowledge in long-read sequencing, single-cell microbial genomics, and whole genome assembly is desirable
– Leadership experience and ability to mentor junior team members are advantageous
The research environment offers access to advanced infrastructure, including mass spectrometry, sequencing facilities (Illumina, Oxford Nanopore), high-performance computing, isotope laboratories, and a variety of field research equipment. The position provides opportunities to collaborate with government scientists and contribute to environmental policy development.
