Job Description
The Plant Technician at Luminant Power in San Marcos, TX is responsible for operations, preventive and corrective maintenance of plant equipment at a Gas Plant. Key tasks include troubleshooting, equipment maintenance, conducting inspections, and ensuring safety compliance. The role requires 4-6 years of experience in a power plant, familiarity with industrial equipment, and effective communication skills. The position is not remote and involves hands-on work in the plant environment.
About the position
This position is responsible for performing operations functions, preventive and corrective maintenance as applicable to job function to ensure proper functioning of plant equipment. The role will work under the direction of site management and is crucial for the proper function and maintenance of equipment at a Gas Plant for the Gas fleet. The individual will be responsible for promoting safe, effective, and reliable operation within the plant environment. Key accountabilities include proficiency in the primary skills required for the position, maintaining equipment at the plant, troubleshooting and documentation, and assisting in the resolution of problems discovered during shifts. Daily maintenance tasks will involve overhauls, calibration, troubleshooting, repair/replacement, and removal/installation of plant equipment and systems. The position also requires making decisions and recommending appropriate repair techniques for plant equipment to peers, supervisors, and plant management. Additionally, the role involves conducting excitation system inspections and preventive maintenance, operating material handling equipment, developing and implementing plant operating procedures, and understanding the relationship of equipment to plant systems. The individual may also provide instruction and teaching to lower-level employees and must ensure strict adherence to safety, health, and environmental procedures related to plant operations and maintenance, including Lockout Tagout, Job Safety Analysis, Confined Space, Hot Work, Electrical Safety, and PPE.
Responsibilities

• Maintain equipment at the Gas Plant for the Gas fleet.

• Troubleshoot and document issues, assisting in the resolution of problems discovered on shift.

• Perform daily maintenance, overhauls, calibration, troubleshooting, repair/replacement, and removal/installation of plant equipment and systems.

• Make decisions and recommend appropriate repair techniques for plant equipment to peers, supervisors, and plant management.

Requirements
• 4-6 years related experience in a power plant or industrial setting (possibly heavy equipment).
,
• Familiarity with industrial sized pumps, motors, fans, bearings.
,
• Knowledge of motor alignments and pump alignment, plus welding skills are preferred.

• Satisfactory completion of Tier 2 within primary skill for position job performance measure.
,
• Minimum of High School diploma or equivalent.
,
• Demonstrate computer-based skills.
,
• Demonstrate effective oral & verbal communication skills.
,
• Independent knowledge of troubleshooting.
,
• Successful completion of the Plant Operator Selection System/Power Plant Operations and Maintenance (POSS / MASS) program.
Nice-to-haves
• Welding skills are preferred.
