Job Description
The Partnerships and Communications Director at ELAW leads the P&C Team, developing fundraising and communication strategies to enhance public awareness of environmental justice. Responsibilities include cultivating donor relationships, overseeing communication materials, and managing team dynamics. The position is primarily based in Eugene, Oregon, but exceptional candidates may work remotely with quarterly on-site requirements. The role is full-time with a salary range of $110,000 – $130,000.

About the Role:
The Partnerships and Communications (P&C) Director provides vision, strategic direction, and oversight to the P&C Team, which works with the organization’s leadership to frame the unique identity of ELAW, build public awareness of ELAW’s role in advancing environmental justice, and foster relationships with individual, foundation, and other supporters.
The P&C Director develops, updates and executes ELAW’s fundraising and communications strategy to meet annual organizational needs.
• Location: Eugene, Oregon (other locations possible for exceptional candidates, with at least quarterly significant time on-site in Eugene, Oregon)
• Salary Range: $110,000 – $130,000
• Reports to: Executive Director and Leadership Team
• Status: Full-time, Exempt
What You’ll Do:
• Cultivate and steward funders and prospective funders (private foundations and individual donors).
• Establish and update ELAW’s public-facing communications strategy.
• Ensure ELAW’s website, bulletins, social media, and public events and webinars are targeted, accurate, and compelling.
• Elevate ELAW as a credible organization with impressive partners doing critical work with positive environmental and social outcomes on a global scale.
• Work as a member of the ELAW Leadership Team to guide the organization’s programs and strategies.
• Provide leadership to and supervise staff and consultants on the P&C Team.
• Manage personnel matters in consultation with the Executive Office, setting and updating team priorities, ensuring high quality work products, and ensuring the team interacts efficiently and effectively with the other teams at ELAW.
• Oversee and/or act as the Board Secretary, ensuring all responsibilities are fulfilled and deadlines are met in accordance with established bylaws.
• Direct and partner with Grant Finance Manager on all grant-related activities, including:
• Grant writing, grant administration, grant reporting
• Cultivating and stewarding current and prospective funders
• Air traffic control of grants portfolio
• Helping Grant Managers track deadlines
• Managing Salesforce foundation records
• Direct and partner with Individual Giving Manager to build, maintain, and oversee relationships with individual donors
Communications:
• Oversee production of weekly ELAW Bulletins, directly contributing by writing and editing as appropriate
• Oversee production of quarterly newsletter (ELAW Advocate), directly contributing by writing and editing as appropriate
• Connect with and steward reporters
• Create and maintain publicity materials (brochures etc.)
• Organize ELAW fundraising and other donor events
• Oversee social media accounts to ensure ELAW’s initiatives are being shared with a large audience
Education and Outreach:
• Help partners strengthen their organizations through foundation fundraising
• Help partners strengthen their communications
Who You Are:
You are an experienced professional with significant experience in both strategic communications and fundraising. You thrive in a collaborative, cross-cultural environment and are eager to support a mission-driven global community. You are enthusiastic about relationship building with individual donors and foundations and participating in and organizing social events and gatherings.
Qualifications:
• Legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Strong preference for candidates residing in or near Eugene, Oregon, but exceptional candidates residing in other locations with regular ability to travel to Eugene, Oregon may be considered.
• Committed to human rights and environmental protection.
• Excellent writing skills.
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in related positions. Experience must include multiple years’ experience in development/fundraising and multiple years’ experience in communications.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in department or organization leadership including direct management of staff and teams.
• Master’s degree in related subject or bachelor’s degree in related subject with an additional 2 years’ experience.
• Comfort with office equipment; proficiency in GSuite, Microsoft Office, and virtual collaboration platforms.
• Strong organizational, team management, and interpersonal skills.
• Adaptable, proactive, and enjoys teamwork and multitasking.
• Culturally sensitive with experience working with a global workforce.
