About GBE Energy
Founded in 2013, GBE is an energy trading firm specializing in the electricity markets of North America. Our expertise lies at the intersection of fundamental analysis and risk management. With offices in Calgary and Metro Vancouver, our team has decades of collective market experience, consistently delivering positive returns by successfully navigating the most dynamic and volatile commodity in the world. The work is simple but demanding: find value where others haven’t.
The electricity grid, the most complicated machine created by human kind, is in constant flux. Current day is no different, as increased electrification trends continue to power our collective futures. As our transportation, industrial processes, and computing requirements demand ever more power, our grids are increasingly responding to these requirements, most often with wind and solar power.
Now and increasingly into the future, weather is at the core of what we do - our trading decisions depend on it. Accurate weather forecasts drive accurate forecasts of wind and solar generation. And as weather volatility increases with climate change, so does the uncertainty of electricity demand. Understanding the weather drivers and modelling these uncertainties are fundamental to the grids of the future.
The Opportunity
We’re looking for a talented, ambitious Meteorology / Atmospheric Sciences Intern to join our White Rock (Vancouver) team starting in 2026, with the clear expectation that strong performers will transition to a full-time meteorologist position after graduation.
This is not a theoretical internship. You will be part of the trading floor environment, working side by side with experienced meteorologists, traders, and analysts. Your forecasts will directly influence risk decisions and trading strategy across North America’s most active power markets.
If you're eager to see your weather analysis put to the test in real time and kickstart your career in energy meteorology, this is your chance.
What You’ll Do
• Analyze and interpret weather data to support trading strategies, with direct collaboration with traders.
• Deliver concise, actionable weather briefings in real time as conditions evolve.
• Evaluate global and regional model output and communicate uncertainties.
• Research seasonal trends and climate impacts on North American power demand and renewable generation.
• Learn best practices in commercial electricity load forecasting, market fundamentals, and trading strategy.
• Contribute to a forecasting culture that values precision, accountability, and constant learning.
• Work side by side with an experienced meteorologist, as well as traders and analysts, in a collaborative environment
What We’re Looking For
• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s in Meteorology, Atmospheric Sciences, or closely related field. We welcome applications from students graduating during the 2025-2026 academic year.
• Solid foundation in synoptic and mesoscale meteorology, with an interest in operational forecasting.
• Strong analytical mindset, with the ability to communicate uncertainty clearly.
• Genuine interest in energy markets and how weather shapes them.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Collaborative and professional, with the confidence to speak up in a trading environment.
Why Choose GBE Energy?
• High-impact work: Your forecasts will matter every day.
• Career path: We’re recruiting for the long term. Strong interns will be offered full-time roles in our meteorology team after graduation.
• Collaborative environment: Work in close contact with traders, data scientists, and senior leadership.
• Learning culture: We value critical thinking, direct feedback, and personal ownership. You'll learn fast.
• Beautiful location: Our White Rock office is in the Vancouver area a safe, welcoming place for students relocating from the US or elsewhere. We’re here to support that transition.
How to Apply
Submit your resume and a brief cover letter explaining why you want to work at the intersection of meteorology and energy trading. Typos and authenticity are preferable to LLMs. We review applications on a rolling basis.
GBE Energy is an equal opportunity employer. We value diversity and inclusion in our hiring.
