• Permanent full-time role based in Sydney or Melbourne
• Hybrid work environment that promotes a flexible approach to work
• A supportive and collaborative media and communications team
About the role:
We’re looking for a Media Advisor who’s passionate about making a positive change and excited to shape how climate stories are told throughout Australia. In this role, you’ll help drive media strategy, support our expert spokespeople, and amplify the Climate Council’s message across the national media landscape. You’ll work closely with the wider communications team, the Climate Media Centre, and subject matter experts to ensure our climate stories break through the noise and drive real impact.
This is a permanent full-time position, working Monday-Friday each week, with some rostered early starts (7am).
As a Media Advisor at the Climate Council you will have:
• Tertiary qualifications in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or proven experience working in journalism, media or communications.
• A solid understanding of media fundamentals—how to pitch a story, craft a media release, and work across various communications platforms (broadcast, print, digital).
• A passion for climate action and a desire to help drive change.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a knack for storytelling.
• Hunger to learn, confidence to communicate, and a proactive mindset.
• Great interpersonal skills and ability to brief a wide range of spokespeople, including scientists, economists and energy experts.
• Stellar organisation skills, and a capacity to juggle competing projects while managing highly engaged stakeholders.
What we offer our employees:
• Be part of a bold, fast-moving organisation that’s making a real difference.
• Work with a passionate team of climate communicators, scientists, and advocates.
• Flexible work arrangements and supportive team culture.
• Grow your skills in a purpose-driven role with national impact.
• Five ‘recharge’ days each year to ensure your wellbeing is looked after.
• Competitive annual base salary + superannuation and a recognition reward program.
• Opportunities for professional learning and development
