Coeur Mining is a U.S.-based, well-diversified, growing, precious metals producer with four wholly-owned operations: the Palmarejo gold-silver complex in Mexico, the Rochester silver-gold mine in Nevada, the Kensington gold mine in Alaska and the Wharf gold mine in South Dakota. In addition, the Company wholly-owns the Silvertip silver-zinc-lead exploration project in British Columbia.

Coeur Wharf is an open-pit, heap-leach gold operation and the only gold mine operating in South Dakota. Located in the northern Black Hills, Wharf is the only known operating mine that shares a hillside with a ski resort, Terry Peak.

Coeur Wharf has been part of the local community since 1983, actively volunteering and supporting the arts, educational programs, beautification events and children’s and wellness programs.

About the Job:

The Junior Environmental Coordinator is responsible for the performance of the following duties in a safe and productive manner.

Responsibilities:
• Gathers and evaluates technical data to facilitate the preparation of and prepares permit applications, work plans, studies, assessments and regulatory reports related to environmental compliance.
• Plans, coordinates, performs and manages environmental activities related to air, meteorology, wildlife, reclamation, re-vegetation, sediment/erosion control, remediation systems, waste management and mine closure.
• Regularly reviews, interprets data to ensure compliance with all permits.
• Effectively communicates regulatory conditions, compliance requirements and responsibilities to other departments and employees.
• Complete and monitor required soil and water sampling; maintain regulation compliance, ensure proper sample protocol, etc.
• Coordinate shipment of samples to outside laboratories for analysis along with proper sample handling
• Assist as needed with basic maintenance and service on all air quality, ground water and surface water sites
• Assist with various reclamation duties including broadcast seeding of prepared sites, hydro-mulching, fertilizing, tree planting, and maintenance
• Coordinate with operations to maintain access to injection wells and treatment ponds
• Perform field tests and in house sample analysis; Must be able to calibrate and operate field sampling instrumentation
• Collect various flow readings and water level monitoring data
• Other items may be added based on business needs

Required Qualifications & Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Engineering or a related Environmental Science
• 1-3 years’ experience in environmental related fields. Environmental experience in South Dakota is desirable
• Understanding of and ability to apply state and federal environmental law, including permitting, environmental policies and prevention policies
• Working knowledge with various sampling techniques and reporting procedures for air, meteorology, water, wildlife, reclamation, re-vegetation, sediment/erosion control, remediation systems, waste management and mine closure
• Computer proficiency in Microsoft products
• Follow all procedures and safety measures to assure safe production
• Work in all conditions and environments, approximately 80% of job is outdoors
• Able to lift 50 lbs. on an occasional basis
• Able to walk up and down slopes and uneven ground daily
• Understanding of and ability to apply state and federal environmental law, including permitting, environmental policies and prevention policies.
• Working knowledge with various sampling techniques and reporting procedures for air, meteorology, water, wildlife, reclamation, re-vegetation, sediment/erosion control, remediation systems, waste management and mine closure.
• Ability to manage multiple projects efficiently, prioritize tasks and work with minimal supervision to meet deadlines.
• Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal.
