A leading renewable energy company is seeking an experienced Grid Connection Manager to support the development and construction of large-scale, grid-connected renewable projects, including solar, storage, and wind. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in driving the UK’s transition to a greener energy future.
Employment Type: Full-time, permanent
The Role
As a Grid Connection Manager, you will oversee the grid connection process from project inception through to construction. You’ll work closely with distribution network operators (DNOs), transmission operators (TOs), independent connection providers (ICPs), and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
Key Responsibilities
• Identify and assess new project leads, working closely with the Land team and DNOs.
• Manage grid connection applications and review connection offers.
• Design and specify grid infrastructure and substations, ensuring cost-effective solutions.
• Conduct due diligence on grid-related opportunities.
• Mentor and support junior team members.
• Engage with network operators, trade bodies, and technical stakeholders to drive policies that facilitate renewable energy deployment.
• Stay up to date with industry standards, implementing design and process improvements.
• Serve as the go-to expert for grid design and technical matters throughout project development and construction.
• Manage interactions with DNOs, TOs, and third-party contractors post-acceptance to ensure smooth project progression.
Key Requirements
• Proven experience in grid management for utility-scale solar and/or wind projects.
• Strong understanding of grid infrastructure design and distribution/transmission networks.
• Proficiency in MS Office, with experience building models in Excel.
• Knowledge of protection communication requirements.
• Commercial awareness of how design decisions impact project profitability (financial modelling experience is a plus).
• Experience with DIgSILENT or similar power modelling tools (highly advantageous).
• Experience with AutoCAD and PVSyst for multi-megawatt solar PV projects (preferred).
• Bachelor's degree in Renewable Energy, Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills, with a structured approach to project execution.
