Job Description

The Department of Geography at the National University of Singapore invites applications to fill one tenure-track position of Presidential Young Professor (PYP) at the rank of Assistant Professor, who will contribute to the delivery of the MSc Climate Change and Sustainability and other areas of the Geography programme. Applications are especially invited from individuals with expertise in groundwater vulnerability, hydrogeology, water and human health, climate change adaptation.

The NUS Presidential Young Professorship Scheme aims to attract, support, and empower the brightest and most promising young academics in the early stage of their careers so that they can develop themselves into world-class scholars. As a young academic at NUS, you will have the opportunity to work alongside a diverse and dynamic community of scholars and students, to pursue excellence and innovation with a positive societal impact. Successful PYP candidates are awarded a start-up grant package of up to SGD 750,000, scholarships to hire PhD students and an award of SGD 250,000 in white space funding.

The successful candidate will join the dynamic and collegial Department of Geography, which has an international profile as one of the world’s top Geography Departments (6th in QS ranking 2024) in one of the world’s leading and best-resourced universities. Candidates interested in this position should possess a PhD in the relevant field. They should also be able to demonstrate expertise in researching and understanding the complexities of climate change and sustainability that impact society. Some experience of teaching is also desirable. They should show promise for or already have a record of excellence in research, evidenced by high-quality publications.
Responsibilities

In terms of academic responsibilities, the successful candidates will be expected to:
1. Actively contribute to the Department’s internationally recognized research and teaching activities and commitment to lifelong learning.
2. Contribute to the delivery of the MSc Climate Change and Sustainability and other areas of the Geography programme (a minimum of two courses per year for tenure-track).
3. Supervise student research.
4. Undertake service duties commensurate with the level of appointment.
