Job Description

The City of Idaho Falls is hiring General Laborers for the Frontier Center. Responsibilities include setting up and taking down the auditorium for events, using hand tools, cleaning, mowing, and moving heavy objects. Applicants must be over 18 to use heavier equipment. The role requires physical activity, effective communication, and may involve night and weekend shifts. Pay ranges from $14 to $18 per hour.
The City of Idaho Falls is accepting applications for General Laborer positions for the Frontier Center. These positions perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled duties related to the set up and take down of the auditorium for events and performances of various types.

Applicants over age 18 can be trained to use tools and heavier equipment that moves the stage curtains, etc. Applicants under age 18 can be trained to use smaller hand tools for stage set up, repair, and maintenance.May perform all or some of the following:

Uses a variety of hand tools, such as shovels, picks, brooms, pitch forks, etc.; sweeps alleys and sidewalks, cleans up debris and construction waste; mows grass and removes weeds.

Loads or unloads supplies, lifts and moves heavy objects, or other materials in the maintenance of property owned by the City.

Assists in the preparation of stage and building for various projects. Operates small power tools and equipment.

Sets up and removes barricades as needed; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

Performs related duties as required.1. Education and Experience:

A. Sufficient education and training to demonstrate an ability or aptitude to perform above duties; OR B. An equivalent combination of education and experience.

2. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Some knowledge of basic maintenance procedures; some knowledge of hazards and safety precautions related to above duties; some knowledge of the operation of standard hand and power tools.

Some skill in the operation of standard hand tools.

Ability to follow verbal and written instructions; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing; ability to develop effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public.

3. Special Qualifications:

May require employees to work nights, weekends, holidays, and/or be on-call.

Final candidates will be subject to a background check prior to employment.Tasks require variety of physical activities, generally involving muscular strain, such as walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, lifting, etc.(moving up to 50 pounds and occasionally moving up to 80 pounds). Talking, hearing and seeing essential to the performance of the job. Daily exposure to weather extremes and seasonal conditions. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity exist. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, discriminating thinking. Frequent local travel required in normal course of job performance.
