Job Description
New York University is hiring a part-time GIS Analyst for Climate Resilience. The role involves gathering flood event data, maintaining documentation, formatting spatial datasets, and performing quality control. Candidates should have a Bachelor's degree in GIS, Environmental Science, or related fields, with proficiency in GIS software and experience with satellite imagery. Strong analytical and collaborative skills are essential for this position.
• Job Summary
We are seeking a talented Associate Research Scientist to work with our team of climate modelers and researchers. The successful candidate will have expertise in GIS, data science, and environmental science.
• Responsibilities
• The ideal candidate will gather flood event data focused on urban catchments from diverse sources.
• Maintain proper documentation of data sources, including metadata, licensing, and accessibility constraints.
• Clip, reproject, and format spatial datasets to align with the study area and modeling results.
• Convert data into required formats (e.g., GeoTIFF, shapefiles, CSV) for analysis.
• Perform quality control to detect inconsistencies or gaps in the datasets.
• Provide necessary support to the team in developing a reproducible workflow for processing satellite imagery.
• Compile a structured report summarizing the data collection, processing workflow, and validation outcomes.
• Qualifications*
• Pursuing or holding a Bachelor's degree in GIS, Environmental Science, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Demonstrated proficiency in GIS software platforms, particularly QGIS and ArcGIS, with hands-on project experience.
• Experience in working with satellite imagery datasets and proven experience in data retrieval methodologies.
• Excellence in analytical thinking with meticulous attention to detail and quality control.
• Proven ability to synthesize complex technical information and create clear, comprehensive documentation.
• Strong collaborative skills and ability to work effectively within a technical team environment.
