Job Description
Farm Manager SA is seeking a GENERAL / ELITE MANAGER for Summer Flowers in Afrika Sel. Candidates should have a degree in Horticulture or related fields, with 7-10 years of experience in a propagation unit. Responsibilities include budget management, labor oversight, asset management, crop production, safety protocols, and project management. Strong leadership, communication skills, and computer literacy are essential. A valid driver's license and passport are required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
• Graduate in Horticulture, floriculture, Agriculture
• 7-10 years’ experience in a propagation Unit in the same capacity
• Excellent leadership and Management skills
• Analytical mindset, excellent interpersonal and communication skills and team player facilitating cross-functional collaboration
• Computer literate
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Valid driver’s license
• Valid passport
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
Budget Monitoring and Management
• Prepare the annual budget for the Propagation in conjunction with the company’s General Manager, Finance Manager and Directors in order to operate within these guidelines
• Ensure every order has an LPO attached and resource usage per LPO is monitored and evaluated
• Ensure plastics replacement is managed
• Regularly monitor expenditures and implement cost-saving measures where applicable.
• Prepare financial reports and forecasts for senior management review
Labor Management
• Oversee Day to day Operations at Elite i.e. Rose and Summer flower Propagation as well as Vegetable Nursery.
• Recruit, train, and supervise farm workers, ensuring efficient utilization of labour resources.
• Schedule tasks and allocate responsibilities to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
• Monitor, analyse and intervene on key HR KPIs
• Foster a positive work environment conducive to teamwork, safety, and professional development.
Asset and Equipment Ownership
• Responsible for proper management of all farm assets and equipment, including but not limited to machinery, irrigation systems, and infrastructure in Elite plants ltd.
• Ensure Implementation of preventive maintenance schedules to ensure operational readiness and longevity of assets.
• Proactively coordinate for Procurement of appropriate PPEs, tools, and equipment in order to optimize farm operations.
Crop Production and Protection
• Oversee all aspects of crop production and implement planting schedules to maximize crop yield. Ensure we achieve Quality on Time in Full (QUOTIF) on all our propagation activities.
• Implement sustainable farming practices to optimize yield and quality.
• Monitor crop health and implement pest and disease management strategies.
• Implement irrigation strategies to ensure optimal plant growth and health.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to crop production.
Security, Health, and Safety
• Implement security measures to protect farm assets and mitigate risks.
• Develop and enforce health and safety protocols to minimize risk and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Promote a culture of safety among farm workers through trainings.
Project Management
• Discuss with the senior management to agree on the key projects to focus on for a set period.
• Design, implement and execute projects that run across the main KPI’s (Productivity, Quality, Resource management and workforce) in a timely manner.
• Monitor project progress, identify risks and obstacles, and implement solutions to keep projects on track
Policies and procedures
• Ensure that all general practises and workflows are captured in policies and procedures
• Ensure that all employees within elite plants are up to date on targets and policies in place
• In case of any deviation of a policy ensure CAR’s are issued and there are follow ups to get the process back in line.
• Any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the immediate supervisor, manager, or senior management.
