About the position

The G&P Fish & Wildlife Biologist II position at the State of Nebraska involves collecting, processing, and interpreting fish population and angler harvest data. The role focuses on evaluating fish habitats, implementing aquatic habitat improvement projects, and providing technical assistance in fisheries management. This position is essential for developing management plans and ensuring the sustainability of fish populations in district waterbodies.

Responsibilities
• Collect, process, summarize and interpret fish population data and angler harvest data.
,
• Evaluate physical, chemical and biological characteristics of fish habitats following Fisheries Division sampling guidelines.
,
• Collect and analyze data for formulation of management plans and development of specific lake and reservoir goals and objectives.
,
• Plan and implement aquatic habitat improvement projects on district waterbodies.
,
• Assist with fish stocking and in collection of brood stock fish for production purposes.
,
• Provide technical assistance of fisheries habitat enhancement techniques and fish management to lake associations, private clubs and private pond owners.
,
• Prepare technical reports and maintain records.
,
• Perform related work as required.

Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in fish or wildlife management or closely related field or equivalent experience in the field of biological science AND three years experience in fish or wildlife management or a closely related field; OR Master's degree in fish or wildlife management or closely related field or equivalent experience in the field of biological science AND one year experience in fish and wildlife management or a closely related field.

• Drivers license is required.
,
• Extensive knowledge of fishery management principles; life history and habitat needs of fish species; research, statistics, and record keeping systems; and Game Law statutes and regulations as they relate to fisheries management.
,
• Ability to conduct statistical data analyses, manipulate and manage large databases, communicate effectively; set goals and objectives; perform heavy physical labor and work outdoors for long periods of time; operate and maintain boats, motors, nets and electrofishing gear; work with little supervision; develop and maintain professional relations with a broad range of agencies and publics.
