# Applicant Portal:## Job Details: Fund Lead - Forestry and Carbon Investments| | Fund Lead - Forestry and Carbon Investments || | New Forests is seeking a senior investment professional to lead the management and growth of a diversified portfolio of forestry and carbon assets. As Fund Lead, you will take full responsibility for fund performance — financial, environmental, social and governance — and drive value creation across a portfolio of high-impact, natural-capital investments. You will coordinate fund operations, oversee asset managers, engage with investors, and ensure compliance with governance frameworks. This is a unique opportunity to combine fund leadership, asset management and sustainability at scale || | 1. Fund Leadership & Performance • Overall responsibility for the performance of the fund covering safe and ethical operations, financial returns, and ESG- environmental, social and governance impacts in line with constituent documents and internal processes. • Lead major fund-level or asset-level strategic projects in line with New Forest board and investment committee mandates. • Closely coordinate with internal functional teams (Investments, Data Solutions, Investor Services, Finance, Legal, Risk & Compliance, Business Development). 2. Portfolio & Asset Management • Oversee and optimize the performance of asset managers who handle day-to-day operations within fund assets. • Develop and monitor asset-level business plans for timber, carbon, land, and related infrastructure. • Review and guide financial and carbon models, assumptions, and valuation methodologies at both asset and fund levels. • Identify and execute value-creation initiatives (improved silviculture, certification upgrades, carbon methodology expansion, operational efficiencies). 3. Fund Operations • Coordinate all fund operations to ensure optimal performance and alignment with investor requirements. • Lead compilation of fund strategic plans, budget planning and periodic updates of fund-level financial models. • Oversee periodic valuation exercise, procurement and supervision of third-party service providers (property managers, auditors, consultants, valuers). • Coordinate fund capital structuring (loan structuring, taxation, expense management, performance fee calculations). • Manage fund insurance coverage and evaluate acquisitions and dispositions of assets in collaboration with the Investments team. 4. Governance & Investor Relations • Ensure full compliance with investor constituent documents, internal policies, and legal obligations in collaboration with legal, risk, and compliance staff. • Fill designated fund operating company directorships in fund-owned assets and operating companies. • Aggregate and present quarterly and annual reporting (financial, ESG, carbon and long-term return forecasts) to management committees, boards, and at investor annual meetings. • Respond to investor enquiries and provide timely updates to meet investor requirements. 5. Carbon & ESG- Environmental, Social and Governance Leadership • Drive fund-level ESG performance through strategic initiatives, working with property managers and asset-level staff. • Oversee generation, verification, and reporting of fund/asset carbon stocks in coordination with third-party asset managers. • Ensure adherence to recognized carbon standards and best-practice MRV-Measurement Reporting and Verification processes. 6. People Leadership • Manage direct reports of asset managers providing direction, support and setting boundary conditions • Lead staff development, training and mentoring, conduct performance reviews, and determine appropriate resourcing allocations across asset activities. • Promote a high-performance culture focused on disciplined asset management, operational excellence and transparent reporting. || | We are seeking accomplished professionals who bring: • 10+ years’ experience in investment, fund, or asset management, with a strong track record of delivering both financial and ESG outcomes. Experience in forestry, agriculture, or natural capital is highly valued. • Expertise in fund operations, asset management, and carbon markets, including certification and MRV (Measurement, Reporting, and Verification) processes. • Proven leadership of multidisciplinary teams and effective management of diverse stakeholder relationships. • Comprehensive understanding of economic, social, environmental, and governance factors that drive portfolio value. • Demonstrated success in investor reporting, governance compliance, and performance optimisation across complex portfolios. • Strong commercial acumen, including contract management, negotiation, and financial analysis skills. • Outstanding stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to engage a broad range of audiences. • Experience with tropical forestry operations and relevant tertiary qualifications are highly regarded. • Significant operational management experience, including compliance with legal and third-party standards. Familiarity with operational best practices and sustainable forest management standards (e.g., FSC, PEFC, IFC PS) is beneficial. • Ability to manage forest resource description, estate optimisation, and GIS to inform financial valuations and strategic planning is advantageous. • Experience with carbon modelling and voluntary carbon standards is a plus. • Advanced degree in Finance, Business, Forestry, Environmental Science, or a related field (preferred).
