What does a Financial Controller Director do at Rinnai?

With the business growing more than 20% in the last year, the finance organization is transforming into a more dynamic, customer focused organization, to enable the support of the projected growth and investment in the business over the next five years. The Financial Controllers position is responsible for all aspects of accounting operations for Rinnai America Corporation, including the production of periodic financial reports and maintenance of accounting records, processes, and systems to support the accuracy of financial results in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Apart from some of the major accountabilities, this role will have an initial focus on: Process review and Transformation (with a close connection with IT and Systems initiatives), Talent Management, and Organization Development. Team of 12 with 5 direct reports (including Treasury, General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Factory Cost Accountant).

Responsibilities
• Policy & Compliance: Accountable for the implementation and delivery of an effective Control Environment and Internal Control Framework, through the cascade of corporate policies and procedures across the region. Responsible for monitoring policy compliance and creating action plans to address performance gaps, by providing feedback on Policy and Compliance on a regular basis.
• Accounting & Control: Accountable for the interpretation and application of accounting standards in accordance with accounting standards, policy and local country requirements. Responsible for cost accounting and associated annual standard cost updates and inventory revaluations. Responsible for ensuring the balance sheet and profit and loss are accurately reported and represent a true and fair view of the business results. Maintains effective balance sheet control through regular stewardship reviews.
• Policy & Process: Responsible for indirect oversight of the execution of P2P (Procure-to-Pay), I2C (Invoice-to-Cash) and cash disbursements processes through policy governance and compliance.
• Working Capital Management: Accountable for managing the working capital management requirements, including strategies to achieve, target setting and performance reviews. Responsible for monitoring the performance of the available cash target/results and for collaborating with the Business Partner to set the working capital and cash flow targets (including DSO and CDO metrics).
• Statutory Reporting: Responsible for managing the timely and accurate preparation of activities to support the Rinnai and local in-country statutory accounts for the region. This includes the preparation of accounting technical papers, audit schedules, management declarations and financial minimum control standards, so that the Directors can sign off on their fiduciary duties for the entities within the region.
• External Audit: Manages the relationship with appointed external auditor firm for the region and coordinates the external audit program including coordinating the provision of information.
• Tax: Company Income Tax: Currently supports the external specialists (Deloitte), the controller is responsible for assisting with the preparation of the income tax work papers to support income tax filings.
• Tax: Transfer pricing: Currently supports the external specialists (Deloitte) by ensuring SOP’s and procedures are implemented to support and execute the methodologies in accordance with intercompany agreements.
• Tax: Transactional Taxes: Accountable for the timely and accurate filing including payment and general compliance with all federal, state, and local corporate and payroll taxes including Withholding, Property, Sales etc.
• Treasury: Responsible for the management of cash requirement/funding forecasts mandates and authorities for banks, credit/purchase cards and cash disbursements.
• Internal Audit & Risk: Coordinates the provision of information to internal auditors as required. Responds to internal audit findings by developing recommendations to improve controls and mitigate risk.
• Chart of Accounts Governance: Governs and monitors the chart of accounts, ensuring accounts are being used appropriately; identify opportunities to rationalize accounts
• Transformation & Standardization: Harmonize accounting processes to drive standardization, especially with the consideration of potential ERP and CRM implementations.
• People & Leadership: Attract, engage, develop, and retain the team by providing regular feedback, coaching and training to address capability and technical competency gaps.
• Embrace and support growing business demands in a changing environment (e.g. M&A activity.
• Various ad hoc projects as required

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field
• CPA or MBA Preferred
• Proven senior financial experience in a foreign listed company multinational environment
• Proven experience (8+ years) in public company reporting.
• Proven experience in working with a global finance team associated with geographically diverse businesses; fluency in foreign language(s) preferred
• Sound understanding of, and experience working, with multiple currencies
• Well-developed commercial acumen with experience in negotiation and business management from a financial perspective.

• Compliance: prepare company’s Statutory Accounts, Tax, and other statutory returns and other such matters within specified time frames
• Maintain regular contact with company’s bank, auditor, legal and other professional advisors
• Company policies and procedures are communicated and maintained
• The effectiveness of the control environment as measured by internal audit reports
• The level of standardization and process harmonization achieved
• The level of employee engagement and enablement as measured by the Engagement Score, the number of internal movements and the level of attrition
