Job Description

GFL Environmental Services USA, Inc. is hiring a Financial Analyst in Mokena, IL. The role involves supporting the Regional Controller and business leadership by providing financial modeling, analysis, and reporting. Key responsibilities include tracking financial status, preparing budgets and forecasts, and conducting variance analysis. Candidates should have a relevant degree and 2-4 years of experience in financial planning, with strong analytical skills and a proactive attitude.
GFL is seeking a high energy analyst with a passion for financial modelling and business insights. Providing direct support to the Regional Controller, Environmental Services Midwest Region, this person will work closely with the business leadership to help to drive overall performance and profitability. Working at the intersection of Finance, IT and Operations this role will support an effective decision-making process.

As an experienced Financial Analyst, you enjoy working in a fast paced, high-growth environment. Possessing strong analytics, you are comfortable working through various finance functions within an organization and have a keen ability to spot and work through opportunities for improvement.

You're a go-getter with "no can't do" attitude.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide and assist in implementing creative solutions that fills the gaps in the out-of-the-box reporting capabilities

Identify trends, facilitate benchmarking and report on the outliers

Track and determine financial status by analyzing actual results in comparison with budget / forecasts

Consolidate and analyze financial data (budget, forecast, actual)

Support with preparation of monthly and quarterly reporting requirements and presentations

Support preparation of budgets and forecasts of monthly, quarterly and yearly

Finalize financial reporting deliverables for month and quarter end

Provide variance analysis on a monthly / quarterly basis in accordance with head office deadlines

Review operational statistics and report KPls in accordance with pre-set timelines

Provide financial and operational analysis and value-added decision support to business

Provide financial expertise in the development of business cases to support new initiatives and/or enhancements to current processes in addition to providing post implementation analysis of new business

Provide ad hoc financial planning and analysis; develop new reports, run models, and ongoing evaluation of projects

Observe and document data management processes. Plan process improvements and translate these into system change requirements.

Maintain prototype reports during initial business review and support finalization of requirements for permanent reports

Review post implementation analysis on new business initiatives

Maintain highest integrity with regard to the Company's policies

Knowledge, Skills and Competencies:

Bachelor's degree in engineering, finance, accounting, economics, mathematics, computer science, or a similar discipline

2-4 years of relevant experience in business analysis and financial planning

Strong attention to detail, and ability to flow through financial transactions

Able to support tight schedules and provide timely analysis

Analytical mindset including the ability to define solutions to abstract problems, test solutions, and apply critical thinking

Open-minded and growth oriented

Must possess a desire to effect change and make a difference in the organization

Able to navigate through and decipher large multi-source datasets, model out the unknown and incorporate the results in budgeting and forecasting

Handle ambiguity and excel in a dynamic and rapidly changing environment

Excellent computer literacy covering ERP, operational and Microsoft office suite, with a black (our favorite color elsewhere is green) belt proficiency in Excel

System savvy - previous knowledge of Workday, Great Plains, Cognos and Power BI is good but it is the ability to learn and adapt to the new systems that is really an asset

Office environment, some occasional travel may be required from time to time at various company locations

Some periodic overtime is expected during busy seasons
