The State of Nevada is seeking an Environmental Scientist for the Closure Branch of the Bureau of Mining Regulation and Reclamation in Reno, NV. Responsibilities include program research, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections, and technical support related to environmental programs. The Position
Environmental Scientists perform program research, planning and development, permitting, compliance monitoring, inspections/enforcement, and technical support services in relation to air, water, waste, federal facilities, corrective action, mining, biology and other environmental programs.
Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform work independently with little or no additional training.
The position is located in the Closure Branch of the Bureau of Mining Regulation and Reclamation and serves as a Permit Writer/Compliance Inspector. This recruitment will be used to underfill an Environmental Scientist 2. The Closure Branch maintains the existing Water Pollution Control Permits until mine sites are determined to be chemically stable and post closure monitoring is completed. Closure Branch Permit Writer/Compliance Inspector duties include review and oversight of tentative and permanent plans for mine facility closure and assessment for adequate containment for protection of waters of the State. The position conducts engineering and compliance inspections, engineering design review, geochemical review and responds to monitoring reports, and completes enforcement and corrective actions to achieve facility compliance. To Qualify
In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
Qualifications
Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the physical, natural resource or life sciences, engineering or closely related field and 18 months of professional environmental experience which involved environmental program research and planning; OR graduation from high school or equivalent and three and a half years of professional environmental experience as described above; OR 18 months of experience as an Environmental Scientist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A valid driver's license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. It is essential that applications include detailed information with time frames regarding education and experience. The most qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
