About the position
The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) is seeking an Environmental Specialist to serve as a Watershed Coordinator within the Water Resources Bureau. This position is crucial for overseeing the management and coordination of local and regional water quality conservation projects. The successful candidate will be based in the Toledo USDA Service Center and will work closely with multiple Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCDs) to support the implementation of the Iowa Nutrient Reduction Strategy. This role is designed for individuals who are passionate about agriculture and committed to preserving Iowa's natural resources. As a Watershed Coordinator, you will collaborate with various agencies, groups, and individuals to plan and implement effective water quality conservation projects. You will engage directly with farmers and landowners to promote and implement best management practices aimed at improving water quality. Your responsibilities will also include conducting assessments and evaluations to monitor project progress and effectiveness, as well as planning and executing informational and educational programs to raise awareness about conservation practices. Utilizing technology and monitoring techniques, you will identify resource needs and develop innovative solutions to enhance water conservation efforts. Additionally, you will assist with financial reporting and budgeting for the projects you oversee. Requirements
• Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in natural science or an equivalent combination of experience and education.

• Strong working knowledge of agriculture, with experience or educational background in agronomy, soil conservation, nutrient management, or agricultural operations preferred.

• Passion for water conservation and environmental stewardship.
