About the position

POWER Engineers, Inc. is actively seeking a highly motivated Mid- to Senior-Level Environmental Planner to assist the Environmental Project Management Team on electrical infrastructure siting/routing, planning, and environmental permitting projects in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic states. This full-time opportunity will be based in our Richmond, VA office or remotely from Washington DC, or Roanoke, VA. Employees may travel to a POWER office for periodic meetings. The Environmental Planner will conduct and lead siting/routing studies, assist with public outreach tasks, and prepare and review technical writing of environmental planning and analysis documents. The role also involves preparing local zoning or permit applications, assisting senior staff with project controls, team coordination, budget, and forecasting, and preparing proposals and cost estimates for business development efforts. The Environmental Planner will lead internal and external staff and project coordination meetings, prepare and review project schedules and milestones, and interface with internal and external project managers/staff, clients, and sub-contractors. Additionally, the planner will research local, state, and federal permitting requirements, manage multiple projects at various stages, disciplines, and locations, and perform other duties as assigned. This position can require extended hours to accomplish assigned tasks to meet requirements and schedules. Applicants must have the ability to attend and participate in open house and public meeting environments and willingness to travel up to 30% for site visits and client meetings.

Responsibilities
• Conduct and lead siting/routing studies

• Assist with public outreach tasks, including review and preparing news releases and fact sheets, as part of the siting/routing process

• Prepare and review technical writing of environmental planning and analysis documents

• Prepare and assist with local zoning or permit applications

• Assist senior staff with project controls, team coordination, budget, and forecasting

• Prepare proposals and cost estimates for business development efforts
,
• Lead internal and external staff and project coordination meetings

• Prepare and review project schedules and milestones

• Interface with internal and external project managers/staff, clients, and sub-contractors

Requirements
• BS degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Urban Planning, Landscape Architect, or related degree
,
• Five to ten (5-10) years of experience
,
• Experience in linear infrastructure planning, including siting and routing linear infrastructure such as transmission lines and gas pipelines
,
• Knowledge and interest in federal, state, and local environmental policy and regulation
,
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team and collaborative environment, both internally and with clients
,
• Ability to travel up to 30% of the time
,
• Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
,
• Self-starter willing to tackle a variety of tasks simultaneously
,
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
,
• Ability to lead a team and provide guidance to junior or entry level staff
,
• Experience in proposal writing and presentations
,
• Strong writing skills

Nice-to-haves
• Proficiency with ESRI ArcGIS and Adobe Creative Suite computer applications
