The Environmental Outreach and Engagement Coordinator at Associated Students, Inc. in San Francisco, CA, is a part-time position (20 hours/week) focused on promoting sustainability and social justice on campus. Responsibilities include event planning, community outreach, and managing interns. The role requires in-person onboarding and training in August, indicating that it is not a remote position.
Position: Environmental Outreach and Engagement Coordinator/ ERC Hours: 20 hours per week Pay Rate: $19.82/hr (effective July 1, 2025)Tentative Interview Dates: Beginning the end of May through Mid-JuneRequired In-Person Onboarding: August 5th & 6thRequired Attendance for Training: August 11th through 15th About the Environment Resource Center The Associated Students Environmental Resource Center aims to make San Francisco State a more environmentally conscious campus. Through projects, policy reform, education, and community outreach, our team promotes many facets of sustainability and social justice. We work to facilitate waste diversion, provide resources to students interested in sustainability, educate students on environmental and social justice issues through events and workshops, and advance sustainable and just policies on campus. The SOL Patch Community Garden plays an important component, critical to providing community, environmental education, and personal development for members of the SFSU student body. Position Details The Environmental Outreach and Engagement Coordinator (EOEC) is responsible for supporting all Environmental Resource Center semester initiatives. Duties include, but not limited to: planning and facilitating meetings and events, on-campus organizations & amp; community outreach, and management of interns. The Assistant Director will facilitate coordinators and interns collaborating with other departments, AS and university programs, and student groups to promote sustainability on the San Francisco State campus. Essential Job Duties: Assist the ERC leadership in facilitating the all Fall/Spring initiatives for Sol Patch Garden, Sustainability Initiatives, and environmental justice movements.Attends bi-weekly meetings scheduled with AS Program Directors, as requested by the Director when they are not available to attend.Coordinates weekly staff meetings and tracks intern meetings for all ERC initiatives.Attends Associated Students bi-weekly Sustainability Assembly meetings with the ERC Student Director, as requested by ERC leadershipSupports and maintains the partnership development with AS Programs and the university's Sudexo, Facilities and Waste, and local organizations, such as Recology, SF Environment, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and vendorsAssists the ERC leadership in event planning throughout the semester (i.e. catering requests, guest speaker forms and communication, Gator Experience event applications, etc.)Assists ERC Director and Staff with the hiring process to recruit open ERC coordinator positions & internship rolesCoordinate with other SFSU departments (i.e. Sustainable SF State), AS Programs (i.e. Women's Center), and student groups (i.e. ECOstudents) to promote sustainability and social justice on campusFacilitate monthly AS Sustainability Assembly meetings with the BOD Sustainability and Basic Needs DirectorCoordinate with the AS VP of Facilities & Services to write the Sustainability Assembly agendaRepresent the Environmental Resource Center at the Sustainability CommitteeAssists in monitoring expenditures related to the ERC; project budgetary needs and make adjustments as needed; assist in the process of identifying areas of need for the annual budgetManages the ERC emailing list, volunteer attendance, and oversees AS Event Feedback formAssists ERC Director in intern evaluations during the mid and final part of the semesterDirectly oversee ERC social media, communications, and maintains the ERC semester calendar of eventsContributes to the Annual ERC Report to include accomplishments and highlights for the EEOCMaintains relationships with food vendors and SFSU staff to support gardening and waste management needs, e.g. Recology and SFSU Grounds Department.Qualifications: Must be a student at San Francisco State University enrolled in least 6 units for undergraduates or 4 units for graduates.Must have passion for and/or background in environmental sustainability, environmental justice, and community organizing. Previous volunteer work with the ERC and/or environmental organizations is a plus.Strong written skills; highly experienced with email correspondence.Strong verbal skills; able to give presentations and lead meetings.Strong organizational skills; experience with creating/managing calendars and agendas.Proficient with Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets, Microsoft Word/Google Docs, and Microsoft Powerpoint/Google Slides.Must be able to carry out physical work associated with Waste Audits and Food Rescue.
