Job Description

The Education Innovation and Support Extension Agent at the State of South Carolina will lead college readiness initiatives for K-12 youth, working closely with community partners. Responsibilities include organizing programs, conducting workshops, and promoting scholarships. A bachelor's degree and three years of relevant experience are required. The position involves significant travel (75%) and may require evening and weekend work. This role is based in Orangeburg, SC.
Job Summary:

The education, innovation, and support program agent will provide leadership and professional services to accomplish the education, innovation, and support departmental objectives. This position works closely with regional community partners to effectively execute college readiness initiatives and support the holistic student development initiatives of SC State 1890 Research and Extension.

Job Functions/Duties/Responsibilities:

The EIS agent is a professional who provides College and Career readiness programs to Youth K-12. Develops 1:1 for students and their families around college and career. Oversees the program area and provides leadership to the regional EIS programs. Organizes and conducts Helping Youth Pursue Education (HYPE) programs, conducts College 101 workshops, leads activities in their region to promote college and career readiness, and actively promotes the Agriculture Innovation Scholarship Program.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Plans, develops, and implements EIS regional activities. Provide leadership for EIS programs that meet the needs of youth regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, age, disability, or religion.

Networks and builds coalitions with other federal, state, and local agencies, organizations, and institutions to address the gaps in enrolling students into Higher Education and understanding the process associated with it.

Use appropriate technologies to plan and deliver programs through workshops, seminars, conferences, one-on-one visits, field trips, and tours.

Employee will be responsible for collecting, analyzing, and preparing an area/cluster Plan of Work Report for the year by the requested deadline date.

Organize and conduct programs and activities for youth in life skills and related areas in accordance with the plan of work.

Establish or assist with planning, organization, monitoring, and evaluation of HYPE Clubs. Conduct Extension projects/activities in accordance with the Extension Model/Civil Rights/Affirmative Action Guidelines.

Attend and participate in community meetings, conferences, and workshops in support of Cooperative Extension Mission. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the regional director and the administrator.

Education and Experience:

Individual should possess the minimum of a bachelor’s degree in education, social sciences, family and consumer sciences, sociology, psychology, or related area with three (3) years of satisfactory professional job-related experience to include teaching activities in youth development areas.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None

Work Environment:

Expected to work beyond the traditional 8:30 am - 5:00 pm work schedule.

Must be able to work evenings and weekends, especially during the summer (35%)

Physical Requirements:

Position may involve occasional bending, moving, lifting, and carrying materials weighing up to 40 pounds.

Travel Requirements:

Must be able to travel (75%).

Application Requirements/Special Instructions:

This position is federally funded by the Farm Bill (Agriculture Improvement Act) Section 1444, Agricultural Extension Activities at 1890 Land-Grant Institutions / Section 1445, Agricultural Research Activities at 1890 Land Grant Institutions.

The individual must have the ability to perform duties on own initiative while receiving minimal supervision. The employee must be able to use good judgment in making decisions, exhibit a good working relationship with people, and highly dependable in planning, implementing, and reporting activities. Individual must be able to relate to diverse disadvantaged rural/urban people as well as professionals. A valid driver's license is required. Individual will work with program leaders and other staff in short-term and long-term planning to develop statewide initiative plans which reflect the program needs and priorities for the counties, as well as the state and federal commitments. Individual will also provide leadership for development and successful operation of an overall regional partnering structure or advisory body that allows for program input, development and evaluation. Overnight in-state and out-of-state travel is required.
