Southwest District Health (SWDH) is recruiting an EH Program Support Specialist to join the dedicated group of public health professionals in the Environmental Unit with the Division of Environmental and Community Health Services (ECHS).
As an EH Program Support Specialist and public health employee, you will serve an active role in improving the health of your community. As part of a small, but mighty team, you will supervise a team of Customer Service Representatives and provide direct support to the Division Administrator and Facilities and Land Development Program Managers within the ECHS Division. This position also manages office procedures, compliance processes, data systems, and customer interactions; ensuring seamless coordination between departments while overseeing financial transactions, training logistics, software management, and public inquiries.

Our generous benefits package boosts total compensation for full-time Program Specialist, transforming the base pay range from $25.79 - $30.34/hour to an estimated total compensation value, including benefits, of $37.79 - $43.35/hour, showcasing our investment in your well-being and professional growth.
Typical Duties:
Candidates must be able to complete the essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation and meet all the mandatory qualifications of the position.
• Develop and maintain strategic support plans for the Front Office Section to ensure seamless coordination with Land Development and Facilities teams.
• Oversee office procedures and compliance documentation for programs audited by Idaho Department of Health and Welfare (IDHW) and Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), including childcare, food, and wastewater programs.
• Serve as the primary liaison for temporary food event coordination between the public and Facilities teams.
• Manage logistics, registration, and payments for public health trainings, including Certified Food Protection Manager and installer training sessions.
• Supervise daily financial operations such as deposits, fee collection, purchasing, and travel coordination for Customer Service and Environmental Health teams.
• Lead administration of the Environmental Health (EH) inspection software (Hedgehog), providing system training, troubleshooting, and data reporting for Program Managers.
• Support annual audits and ensure data accuracy and program compliance across EH systems and processes.
• Deliver staff and customer training on system use, develop user guides and manuals, and manage the online portal for positive public interaction.
• Supervise Customer Service staff, handling hiring, scheduling, performance management, and daily team operations.
• Respond to public inquiries, maintain strong interagency communication, and ensure high-quality customer service and public relations.
Minimum Qualifications:
You must possess all the minimum qualifications listed below to qualify for this position. Minimum Qualifications (MQ):
• Some knowledge of:
- Management practices
- Program or project planning and implementation
Some Knowledge is typically gained through either 2-4 relevant college courses, 6 months to 2 years of entry-level related work experience, or a combination of coursework and experience demonstrating the necessary knowledge.
• Approximately 1-2 years of related work experience developing and evaluating policies and procedures.
MQ Specialty:
• Valid Driver’s License
• Approximately 2 years of related work experience supervising staff.
Ideal Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:
• Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish.
Supplemental Information:
This position is not covered by Social Security. As a result, employees do not pay Social Security taxes and will not earn credits toward Social Security retirement, disability, or survivor benefits based on earnings from this job. However, Medicare taxes will still be withheld, and these earnings will count toward Medicare eligibility.
