GreenWaste Recovery LLC is hiring a Director of Environmental Compliance in San Jose, CA, with a salary range of $150,000-$195,000/year. The role involves overseeing environmental permitting, regulatory compliance, and reporting for the company's facilities. Responsibilities include managing relations with regulators, maintaining compliance databases, and supervising the environmental compliance team. We are seeking an experienced, successful, and engaged Director of Environmental Compliance to join our team. This position is expected to work out of our office at in San Jose CA and job-related travel is required.

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for environmental permitting, regulatory reporting, environmental monitoring and regulatory compliance for all company facilities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
• Responsible for design of program, best management practices, due diligence, recordkeeping and all environmental compliance and reporting for the company, including SWPPPs, SPCCs, HMBPs, SFWP, SQG/LQG, ASTs, NOVs, CERS, TRI, ACF, CAA, Title V, PERP, CWA, NPDES, IGP, Title 14, RCRA, CERCLA, CEQA, and all applicable requirements related to waste, recycling, hauling, composting, anerobic digestion, and ancillary operations.
• Leads relations with regulators, including CalRecycle, DTSC, LEAs, BAAQMD, SMAQMD, SJVAPCD, CVRWQCB, SFBRWQCB, CHP, DOT, CARB, DIR, fire departments, and other air, water, solid waste, hazardous waste and related regulators.
• Maintains environmental compliance and permitting database.
• Data management, including collection, evaluation, interpretation, analysis, QA/QC, synthesis, and presentation.
• Maintains all environmental-related permits and licenses.
• Ability to draft and generate memos, letters, technical reports, and proposals.
• Ability to hire competent outside contractors/consultants, and to productively manage and direct them to meet budget and schedule expectations.
• Ability to work in a team setting and work well with others including team members, supervisors, management, and executive team members.
• Ability to work with operations management and personnel as necessary to obtain/maintain permits, and implement necessary site changes, modifications, improvements, etc.
• Provide direct supervision to the environmental compliance team.
• Ability to work productively with all regulators and oversight agencies.
• Research, evaluate and develop ideas to help troubleshoot and accomplish company goals.
• Review and check completed projects for accuracy and provide project/construction/document certification as necessary.
• Champion environmental compliance department processes and procedures and develop employee training programs.
• Identify and recommend process improvements, including automation efficiencies, response time reductions and increased service potential.
• Assist the ELT with other matters as needed.
• Track goals against metrics.
• Stay current with industry trends, benchmarks and best practices.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Must be familiar with local, state, and federal environmental compliance and permitting processes.
• Experience working in and knowledge of the waste or recycling industry.
• Experience with CA regulatory environment.
• Experience with EH&S.
• Able to organize and coordinate information and various services.
• Able to handle odors, dust or other environmental or weather-associated events.
• Capable of working productively with current management team and site technical consultants.
• Must have excellent people skills and be able to effectively lead internal and external environmental compliance team.
• Must have excellent computer skills including MS Word, MS Excel, and to perform internet searches.
• Familiarity with EHS Insights or other environmental compliance and permitting databases.
• Familiarity with Ironclad or other contract database and templates for vendor and contractor work.
• Prior experience as a QISP.
• Must have strong technical writing skills.
• Ability to communicate succinctly.
• Proven ability to research, handle and resolve complex assignments with good judgment, initiative and efficiency.
• Proven track record meeting actionable requirements.
• Proven track record working with key stakeholders.
• Understanding of change management, internal audit and risk management concepts.

• Proficient in Microsoft 365, including SharePoint.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Science (preferably environmental) from an accredited university is required.
• Any technical certification(s) or advanced training are considered beneficial.
• Current and valid driver’s license (Class C)
• 6+ years in environmental compliance
• 3+ years management experience

Language Skill:
• Proficient in English (both verbally and in writing) is required.
• Familiarity with Spanish is considered highly favorable.

Physical Demands:
• Ability to physically push, pull and lift to 25-30 lbs.
• Ability to sit or stand at a desk in an office environment for 6-10 hours a day.
• Travel up to 50% of the time throughout different facilities in California.

Work Environment:

Typical work week is Monday through Friday. Will be exposed to outdoor weather conditions. Ability to work in setting with changes in equipment, start/end time, and location based on the operational and compliance needs for the day and or week.
