Job Description
ERM is seeking a Mid-Level Consultant for its Climate Risk Financial Consultant role in Minneapolis, MN. The position involves quantifying financial implications of climate risk, engaging with corporate clients, and developing methodologies for climate financial risk estimation. Ideal candidates should have experience in climate change, finance, and strong analytical skills. The role includes supporting junior staff, business development, and contributing to thought leadership initiatives.
Position: Consultant, Climate Risk Financial Consultant (Transition Risk) (Mid - Level)
ERM’s Climate Risk and Opportunity Advisory (CROA) team, within our broader Corporate Sustainability & Climate Change (CS&CC) function, is growing quickly. We are looking for consultants to support us in helping our clients shape and deliver on their climate strategies and disclosures. There is a significant opportunity for individuals to progress within the organization, take increasing responsibility for managing our work in the climate change space, and develop market-leading offerings to meet our clients’ needs.
This role will focus on quantifying the financial implications of climate risk, with opportunities to contribute across all areas of our team’s work related to climate change, including the low-carbon energy transition and net zero. More details of the role and required skills are provided below.
Role Description &
Key Responsibilities
As a member of the Climate Risk and Opportunity Advisory Team, you will:
• Apply quantitative methodologies to climate risk and opportunity assessments, including financial statement analysis, discounted cash flow modeling, cost-benefit analysis, and uncertainty analysis such as Monte Carlo simulations.
• Engage directly with corporate clients, including senior leadership, to provide education on climate-related topics, and present your analytical work while defending quantitative results.
• Build templated quantitative methodologies for climate financial risk estimation, focusing on transition risk, that can be leveraged on climate projects.
• Incorporate diverse data sources into your analyses, including corporate financial data, geospatial climate data, academic research, and industry-specific reports.
• Support the delivery of client projects by collaborating with team members across the business.
• Support and lead more junior staff to execute projects, upskill team members, and lead by example.
• Learn to integrate financial models into no-code / low-code digital platforms (e.g., Workiva, ESG Book, One Stream).
• Communicate findings effectively, develop client curiosity about transitioning to a low-carbon economy, facilitate workshops, and build client relationships.
• Assist in business development activities, including drafting client proposals and developing new service offerings.
• Contribute to ERM’s thought leadership, internal newsletters, learning sessions, and other knowledge-sharing initiatives.Person Specification
Ideal candidates will possess:
• Academic and/or professional experience in climate change/sustainability and finance/economics, understanding climate change fundamentals, impacts on business models, and concepts like decarbonization and net zero pathways. Experience with climate transition scenarios (e.g., IEA, NGFS) is desirable.
• Ability to produce high-quality, client-ready deliverables, work independently, demonstrate critical thinking, and handle ambiguity. Experience in financial modeling, advanced Excel skills, and quantitative analysis are essential.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex technical outputs into understandable formats for diverse audiences, including workshops and presentations.
• Familiarity with climate and financial regulatory frameworks such as TCFD, CSRD, IFRS.
• Knowledge of how transition risks impact supply chains.
• Experience working with climate-related risks and opportunities, whether through study or professional roles.
• Graduate or postgraduate qualification with 1-2 years of relevant experience.
