Job Description
what you will accomplish
The Chief Engineer at Koa Kea Resort is responsible for leading the engineering department and maintaining the resort's physical assets, infrastructure, and critical systems to luxury hospitality standards. This leadership role ensures operational efficiency, guest comfort, and safety while supporting sustainability, regulatory compliance, and capital asset protection.
Leadership & Team Management
• Supervise and schedule engineering staff, including maintenance techs, engineers, and external contractors.
• Conduct regular training, performance evaluations, and safety briefings.
• Foster a culture of accountability, responsiveness, and guest-first service.
Facility Operations
• Oversee daily maintenance and repair of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire life safety, elevators, pools/spas, and mechanical systems.
• Ensure timely execution of preventive maintenance programs (PMP).
• Respond swiftly to guest room and property service requests.
Asset Protection & CapEx
• Maintain equipment and infrastructure to extend asset life.
• Monitor systems performance, identify risks, and plan capital improvement projects.
• Prepare and manage engineering department budget.
Compliance & Safety
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, ADA, and all local/state building codes.
• Maintain records, logs, and permits for inspections, audits, and licenses.
• Lead safety programs, emergency protocols, and risk mitigation efforts.
Energy & Sustainability
• Monitor and reduce utility consumption (electricity, gas, water).
• Implement energy conservation measures and support green initiatives.
• Track and report KPIs related to environmental performance.
Cross-Department Collaboration
• Partner with Housekeeping, Front Office, Security, and F&B to resolve facility-related issues.
• Provide engineering support for special events, banquets, and renovation projects.
• Participate in property leadership meetings and strategic planning.
what you will bring
• Minimum 5 years of engineering/facilities management experience in a luxury hotel or resort.
• Proven leadership experience in team management and vendor oversight.
• Strong technical knowledge of mechanical, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, and building automation systems.
• Working knowledge of CMMS or maintenance management software.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Physical ability to perform manual tasks and respond quickly in emergencies.

Salary: $90,000-$105,000
