About the position

The Biologist position serves as a liaison between the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF). The role focuses on providing leadership and expertise in wildlife and forestry management, particularly in conservation practices for upland wildlife habitats. The position is a term appointment lasting up to 10 years, with responsibilities that include establishing partnerships, providing technical assistance, and developing wildlife habitat assessment techniques.

Responsibilities
• Provide leadership to the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF).

• Identify areas where NRCS can partner with NWTF.
,
• Assist the National Biologist with the review and update of Wildlife Conservation Practice Standards.
,
• Establish and maintain links with government agencies, NGOs, universities, and professional societies for technology transfer to NRCS.

• Evaluate and distribute information on the latest research developments in wildlife, conservation biology, and ecological sciences.
,
• Provide technical assistance to NRCS offices in conjunction with agreements with NWTF.
,
• Coordinate and develop wildlife habitat assessment techniques.

• Write articles and professional papers for scientific and popular publications and make presentations related to wildlife and conservation biology.

Requirements
• Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines; OR a combination of education and experience equivalent to a major in the above fields.

• At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through Federal service, including leadership in conservation biology of upland wildlife habitats.

Nice-to-haves
• Experience in agricultural lands and urban areas as primary habitat for wildlife.

• Knowledge of conservation practices and technology development for wildlife conservation.
