Our Division of Regional Ocean Forecasting Systems (ROFS), part of the Institute for Earth System Predictions, is looking for a new position of Operations & DevOps Software Engineer to support the activities of our ocean forecasting systems.
The job location is Lecce, Italy.

ROLE

The Operations & DevOps Software Engineer will be responsible for the operational procedures in the frame of the ocean forecasting systems and will also support their monitoring and the management of the internal and external data repository.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Operations & DevOps Software Engineer will support the ROFS Division activities, with:
• implementation, maintenance, porting, monitoring, and recovery of all the operational chains (including operational validation and visualization systems);
• ensure consistency checks of operational input and output data;
• design and development of Automatic Monitoring and Alerting System of operational chains;
• design and development of automatic procedure to check consistency of operational input and output data;
• build CI/CD pipeline for automatic deploy and installation of new operational chains;
• develop Automatic disaster recovery actions in case of fail of operational chain.

REQUIREMENTS

We are looking for a motivated person with the following requirements:
• M.Sc. degree (or equivalent working experience) in Computer Science, Engineering, or other scientific disciplines (i.e., Physics, Mathematics);
• Good knowledge of Linux operating system and command line interface;
• Proficiency in one or more scripting languages (i.e., Python, Bash, Go, ...);
• Good knowledge of version control systems (i.e., git);

Furthermore, it is welcome to have the following experiences:
• Knowledge of HPC architectures and job schedulers (i.e., IBM Spectrum LSF)
• Knowledge of workflow management platforms (i.e. Cylc, Luigi)
• Experience in managing/manipulating NetCDF data (i.e. NCO, CDO routines)
• Experience on containerization tools (Docker, Singularity)
• System administration and DevOps
• Fluency in English.

DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS​​​​
• Please note that this opportunity will be issued both internally and externally.
• The Operations & DevOps Software Engineer will be based in Lecce CMCC office.
• The appointment period will be initially of 24 months starting from as soon as possible, with a gross annual salary range of 25-40K Euros.
• Welfare package, for minimum 12 months contract.
• Flexible working time as per internal policies.
• Support during the immigration process, if needed.
